Inclusive Economic Development –IED (Scottish Govt./CA: 2010- on-going): VICALP in collaboration with Christian Aid, New Delhi and Scottish Govt. International Development Fund, UK, is implementing a project titled Inclusive Economic Development (IED) involving 3000 plus smallholding turmeric farmers from 29 tribal and Dalit villages of Daringibadi block in Kandhaml, Odisha. The project aims at organising the turmeric farmers and promotes advanced agricultural practices through capacity building and input support. The beneficiary farmers are organised into Common Interest Groups (CIGs) leading towards registered farmers producers’ company named as “Jaiva Jeevan Producer Company Ltd. (JJPCL)”, along with a small scale industry named “Jaiva Jeevan Agri-Enterprise”. The entire process of IED intervention will not only empower the farmers to own their business collectively; but also help them to develop skills and infrastructure for undertaking processing and value addition, end market linkage and, diversification of business to other agri-produces. Eventually it will get them out of the clutches of exploitative trade and business groups as well as enhance their income. The project is also entered into 2nd phase of operation creating scope for expansion and diversification into more areas and activities.
